- Patrick Carroll posted clips of himself firing a shotgun outside his waterfront mansion in Miami.
- Police ordered the real-estate tycoon to undergo a psychiatric evaluation, report says.
- The businessman has cultivated a reputation for outlandish behavior in recent years.
The real-estate mogul Patrick Carroll was ordered by police to undergo a psychiatric evaluation and give up his firearms following the reports of gunshots at his home last week.
Police were called to his home after neighbors heard gunshots coming from his backyard.
Carroll had also posted a since-deleted clip of himself on Instagram, shared by The Real Deal, showing him standing on a boat wearing a red MAGA hat and firing a shotgun.
Carroll later told The Real Deal that he wasn't shooting live rounds and that he had spoken to police.
"They were laughing about it. I was doing it for a video," he said.
Christopher Bass, a Miami Beach Police Department spokesman, confirmed to Page Six that police had taken Carroll to a local healthcare facility for a mental-health check and that a "risk-protection order" had been served.
"This investigation continues," he added.
A Page Six report on March 21 said police picked up Carroll under Florida's Baker Act law, which allows the "temporary detention" of people who are impaired by "mental illness."
Business Insider has reached out to the Miami Police Department for comment.
The mogul moved to Miami in 2022
Carroll moved to Miami Beach in February 2022, when he purchased a $16.3 million waterfront home on Lakeview Drive.
The 7,951-square-foot property has seven bedrooms and 6 ½ bathrooms, Forbes reported.
It also has a 90-foot infinity pool and its own boat dock, from which Carroll appeared to film his Instagram Story last week.
Carroll has cultivated a reputation for outlandish behavior in recent years.
He was accused last year of spitting in the face of a restaurant manager, The Real Deal reported.
Page Six reported in 2022 that Carroll got into a scrap with the biotech billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli while at a star-studded party in Capri, Italy. Other unnamed sources told Page Six that Bertarelli wasn't involved in an altercation at the party.
